can chlamydia come back years after treatment? or do you have to contract it again?
My husband had chlamydia before we met and got treated for it. I have been tested for all STDs 3 times in the 3 years we have been together, and have always been negative. But this week he showed symptoms and tested positive. He says he hasn’t cheated, and I know I haven’t. Is it possible that he has actually had it all along? Or did he pick it up again?

It would be unusual for the symptoms to lay dormant after he was treated just to come up years later.
You cannot catch something that he does not have, it works both ways, However, if the previous treatment was ineffective then he would still be infectious and able to pass it to you. While it is not impossible 3 yrs is quite a long time to go having unprotected sex and not contract it. Usually after treatment they test again a few weeks later to make sure the infection has cleared itself up. Did this ever happen?
If it did then he was successfully treated and he got it again from some other source..there is no other way to get chlamydia other than having unprotected sex with an infected partner.
So in summary:
The circumstances to me, are suspicious. Either you are the luckiest woman alive and have avoided it for 3 years (Chances are you will never win the lottery) or he has contracted it again from another partner. I am not saying he has cheated. But the circumstances don’t add up in this case.

no it isn’t you would have caught it. it doesn’t lay dormant, you have to contract it again
Hes cheating. It clears up on its own in 3-5 months. Even faster with meds.

I am a 35 year old male who started showing symptoms of chlamydia in May of 2010. My only last sexual partner was in December of 2006. I had not had sex since then. It had been dormant for 3 1/2 years and I never had any discharge or other symptoms other than a very very slight burning sensation once or twice in 3 years; i ignored it. Recently I started to notice a discharge that had not appeared before and was tested and diagnosed with chlamydia. So NO DOUBT, it is possible to lay dormant or unoticed for that long. That is why it is termed the silent disease. I have no idea about your case but I thought you would like to know my experience.
