Very depressed, please advise, only serious answers please!?
I have suffered for many years from depression, I have been diganosed with OCD and Dysthymia. I have tried numerous antidepressants and nothing seems to completely relieve my depression and most had side effects, the most common side effects that I have experienced are not being able to sleep and one even made me have incredible feelings of rage. I have tried at least 10 different medications. The symptoms that are most bothersome are of course my checking and rechecking things and my overwhelming feelings of guilt. The feelings of guilt are over things that happened years ago, it’s not like I cheat on my husband or steal or anything, my guilty feelings are over things that happened long ago and not over things that are sinful or illegal but I still just can’t stop beating myself up over these things, I don’t look forward to things that I used to enjoy, and feel sad almost all of the time, it’s like nothing makes me happy at least not for long. The one other symptom that really bothers me is that I have little to no energy and I have 3 children that I want to be more active with and enjoy the short time that they will be with me at home. I have been on Prozac, Tramadol, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Celexa, Amitriptyline, Paxil, and have also been prescribed anti-anxiety meds like Valium, Klonopin, Adivan, and Xanax. The only thing that has ever helped me to feel completely normal is Vicodin and or Percocet, but that is not a long time fix to my problem. I was just wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same thing and if so what medication helped you?

I have much the same problem that you do. I went on the medication merry-go-round also. Finally, the combination of wellbutrin and klonopin was the only thing that worked and didn’t give long term side effects. I also am fortunate to have a good therapist.
I used to beat myself up over mistakes that I made that were nothing major, but have left my life in a mess. I used to live my life in bitterness over the people that did things to me that messed up my life. Now I am trying to stop blaming and trying to fix my life, as no one is going to do it for me. I have a long way to go, but I hope to one day get my life in order and get off the meds. One thing I have learned for certain: In order to get better, you have to want to get better.
xx
Please give yourself a break. I have been through the medication cycle, and my advice to you is to be clean. Talk to your doctor/therapist about no medication at all - after all, it is only a band-aid covering up a problem. Find the root cause - you may just have ineffective coping strategies.
you need jesus
Here is the solution: DON’T TAKE MEDS. Think about it, you’re throwing these unnatural substances in your brain passing the BBB and "fixing" yourself? But oh wait they just developed something better with less side effects, so let’s try you on that now. And repeat, repeat, repeat.
Let’s use logic- You’ve been on that many medications, and you’re still feeling this way. If A does not equal B, then don’t use A. Don’t use a hundred different variations of A.
Medications will never be a permanent fix. They are dependence, you go off them, all feelings come back. Psychological practice needs to develop ways for permanent or at the very least longer methods of "fixing" psychological problems. Not just throw a revolving door of pills at patients.
I think you should stop seeing the psychiatrist and start seeing the psychologist. You’re already very dependent on medication, can you really stand being that way for the rest of your life? I for one, could not. But we’re all different.
listen to music it relieves tension and see a psychologist
I do not pretend to understand completely what you’re going through. However, as nothing more than a suggestion, you should probably see a psychologist.
The best way to deal with depression is to confront yourself with your reality, you mention that you have items (situations) in your past that are unresolved, you must confront them face to face. Discuss them with the others concern with the situations and always with the truth. You will see how much better you feel if not completely relieved, of that monster that is; kipping things just to yourself. And then, you can smoke some weed and enjoy, but not before. Live long and prosper. ( the weed is optional not a must).
try to do more exciting things like sky diving, surfing, snorkeling or going on fun trips to new places. being active and seeing new sights helps to stop the feeling of detachment that people with depression have. and for the lack of energy try B-vitamins. i hope that i was able to help you, and good luck!
You are stuck in a recalcitrant depression. This happens sometimes. A few people will have to try many drugs and combinations before finding what works. I can say this because I spent years trying to find the right combination for my bipolar disorder. That was a painful long process which finally resulted in my gradually feeling better over a several year period. Your depression and anxiety is complicated by OCD. As a psychologist I think that makes your difficulties even tougher to treat medically. If you have a family history of mental disorders this may contribute to the difficulty your doctors are having finding successful treatment for you. I hope you are also participating in ongoing supportive therapy with a counselor to help work toward health. Therapy can help you learn thought stopping methods and other techniques for reducing anxiety, and increasing relaxation and sleep. A good therapist can provide you with wonderful support and an objective view of how you are doing
