Do I? Don't I? Herpes?
I was diagnosed with Herpes years ago. I had gone to the hospital when I was pregnant and had testing for all sorts of diseases because I was very sick. The hospital sent me home saying I had a bacterial infection and 2 WEEKS later my doctor called and said that the Herpes test had come back positive. What baffles me though is I’ve never had an outbreak - ever! He went over the symptoms and they do not apply to me. I had just got out of a relationship and when I heard the doctors results I called ex-he admitted to cheating throughout our relationship, he went and got tested and he was negative! Anyway, I’m pregnant with my 3rd child and I’ve heard that when you are pregnant you are more likely to have an outbreak because of the stess and such. Still though I’ve never had an outbreak and my husband is not infected. My children were born vaginally without med’s and they aren’t infected either. Could the test have been wrong or am I just in denial? When is it common to have symptoms?

This is a question you really need to ask your OB/GYN. But you can get additional info on WebMD.com.
And any medical test can be wrong. Get tested again at another facility that uses a different lab (so if your first test was done through Quest, use Labcorp, or vice versa).
If the test is still positive, talk with your OB about whether or not a C-section would be safer for your baby than having the baby pass through the birth canal.
That’s really terrible that your ex cheated on you. That’s why everyone should always practice safe sex, even in a relationship.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.
Get checked again by a bllod test. It should be able to tell. Some people never have an outbreak even though they have it. Get checked again and good luck.
You do not have herpes. Herpes comes in all sorts of symptoms. Sometimes you don’t have outbreaks. You had a bacterial infection which could be vaginal warts, yeast infections, etc. If you had herpes you would need an injection immediately. So relax.
wow, that is a very interesting story.
what i have learned is that doctors and laboratories are not God!!!! that is a fact. they make mistakes all the time.
my opinion is that you definitely could have gotten a false positive result. talk to your MD or go to a clinic that tests for STDs and have the test again. i am a nurse, and this girl i used to work with walked around for 2 months thinking she had HIV….. and she DID NOT! thank God she re-tested. maybe you do have herpes, but from what you describe, it doesn’t really seem very likely.
best wishes =)
The symptoms vary from person to person….Go to Mayo Clinic.com and get some really great advice…..There are several types of herpes…did you Dr. tell you which one…Did you have chicken pox as a child…have you ever had shingles…these are forms of herpes
You can carry the virus and not show any symptoms for a long time. I have known people who have had "hidden" for years.
You can also contact it through oral sex. If your husband or any past partners has ever had a cold sore and given you oral sex then you can contact it that way. They don’t need to have a current cold sore to transmit it either.
I would ask them if they have ever had a cold sore, it sounds like that is probably how you got it if neither has had it in their genitals.
Also it usually only affects babies being born if the mother has a current outbreak. A gf had it and they put her on medication to prevent outbreaks during the last months of her pregnancy so when she went into labor the path was safe for the baby.
Most people infected with HSV-2 are not aware of their infection
Other signs and symptoms during the primary episode may include a second crop of sores, and flu-like symptoms, including fever and swollen glands. However, most individuals with HSV-2 infection never have sores, or they have very mild signs that they do not even notice or that they mistake for insect bites or another skin condition.
http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/STDFact-herpes.htm
Tests for HSV are most often done only for sores in the genital area. In rare cases, the test may be done using other types of samples, such as spinal fluid, blood, urine, or tears. To see whether sores are caused by HSV, different types of tests may be done
Antibody tests. Blood tests can find antibodies that are made by the immune system to fight a herpes infection. Antibody tests are occasionally done but are not as accurate as a viral culture at finding the cause of a specific sore or ulcer. Antibody tests cannot tell the difference between a current active herpes infection and a herpes infection that occurred in the past. Because antibodies take time to develop after the first infection, you may not have a positive antibody test if you have just recently been infected. Some blood tests can tell the difference between HSV-1 and HSV-2.

You may want to have further testing done.
