HPV or something else?
I am 36 weeks pregnant, i recently completed a 7 day treatment for a yeast infection in the beginning of December, I had some relief, but noticed that symptoms of itchness, burning, frequent urination were coming back. So 2 days ago I looked in my vagina and discovered that I had some red bumps on the inside of my vagina wall and towards the rectum on the inside, you cant see them unless you actually look in there, i was terrified, but did not think that it was STD because when I was presicribed with yeast infection meds, my doctor told me that it looked nothing like an STD, that it was from my yeast infection that was irritated. When I went to my ob appt after I saw those bumps, I asked my doctor and she said it looks like HPV, but was not sure, but she said that is what HPV looks like so she took more swabs to test for STDs again. This will be the 3rd time for testing, the other 2 came out negative. I was not happy about it and went to the ER later that night, but they sent me to Labor and delivery and it turns out that the doctor that prescribed me with yeast infection medication, said he was not going to examine me, because he already seen it, and said if that is what your doctor had said then it could be it, So iasked him didnt you test for that too, and he said yes, and the std tests all came out negative. So I asked could it be a reoccurence of a yeast infection that never fully healed? but he said no. But they did say that I had a UTI. So basically what I am asking is if it is possible to get these bumps with a yeast infection that was badly left untreated that never fully healed? or could it be from a UTI that was left untreated for a while, because i noticed that I had all of these symptoms since OCtober, and it seems that everything all happened at once. i am concerned and scared, because I only had one sexual partner who is my husband and myhusband says he has had no other partners, but I cant really believe him, because he has cheated on me a few times, but dont know if he had intercourse with any of them. i dont deserve this if you know what I mean, because I have been faithful, stay home and take care of the kids and go to school. Could this really be HPV even though I had 2 std testing that came out negative? I have been noticing that my husband has been itching in the genitals for a while now is that normal for a male? he says he had no outbreaks on anything,but wont get tested until my results come back, but he says it is not it because he has had no sexual contact with anyone but me, I really want to believe him, but I cant because how can I get something serious like this when I was faithful and stay home, I dont go out like most people in their 20s, cause i want to spend tiime with my family. i also asked my husband if I could take a look down there, but he wont let me and says I am not a doctor, which I find weird, and he gets upset when I ask him if he has had any other partners. is there any thing else that looks similar to HPV that grows in the vagina, but is not STD? Please give me your feedback, I am very worried. Thanks.

Okay, you need to get copies of you medical records yourself and see what they actually tested for. There is no standard HPV testing. When they test for STDs, very rarely is an HPV test included unless you specifically request it. And the HPV normally done tests for high risk (cancer causing) strains and does NOT test for warts causing strains. And the test usues your pap smear sample, so it only tests for HPV on the cervix. You can have HPV living other places. There are HPV tests that will detect the warts strains and tell you which strains you have, but they just aren’t commonly done and more doctors don’t offer them at all. You definitely need to talk to your doctor about not only whether you were tested for HPV, but what kind of HPV test you were given.
HPV is absolutely no reason to think anyone has cheated. MOST people will get HPV at some point, and hardly anyone gets diagnosed so they never have symptoms. You could have had this for years and never have had symptoms before. The fact that you are pregnant also gives a clue that this is not from infidelity. Pregnancy suppress your immune system. I don’t think there have been any studies that focus on this, but anecdotally I have heard of many women who experience their first HPV issues during pregnancy. Obviously I don’t know whather your husband has had an affair, but HPV is absolutely no reason to think that he has. The fact that he cheated before, however, you might have other reasons to think he is unfaithful now. Aloso, HPV is passed through skin contact. You husband could this from any genital skin contact of even oral-genital contact from someone else.
You husband cannot get tested for HPV. The only test they do for men is when they cover his genitals in a mild vinegar which makes abnormalities turn white. (HPV cells have extra protein so the vinegar makes them turn white.) It’s not really a realible way to test men for HPV, but if he’s having itchiness, this test will help determine whether it’s caused by HPV. If it is, there is a topical cream they can give him to help him fight the HPV.
Has your doctor talked to you about a colposcopy? They use the vinegar and put it inside your vagina. Again, it makes HPV lesions turn white and then they can basically tell you right there whether those bumps are from HPV.
I’m trying to think of other causes for vaginal bumps .. . molluscum contagiosum maybe? Also, without seeing the bumps, it definitely could be irritation from the yeast infection. If you had sex with you husband, he might be itching from the yeast as well. It’s totally possible to cause a yeast infection in a male that way. I don’t know why your doctor said it could no be a recurrence of yeast infection; those happen all the time!
Also, HPV usually does not cause burning and urinary symptoms. That definitely makes me think that you have something other than HPV going on.
I hope your husband has been treated for yeast infection as well. Men do not show symptoms like women a lot of them time but they will continue to reinfect the woman over and over. If he has not been treated, then you still have a yeast infection. He can use over the counter yeast infection cream rubbed over the entire shaft. (the 3 day or 7 day treatment is best in my opinion) You will have to be retreated as well and no sex until you both have been treated if this is the case.
As a retired nurse epidemiologist I’m sure your doctor had your blood drawn for several tests. One test that is normal to check for is syphilis. At the time you had your blood tested that test came back negative as you may have been sero-fasting (meaning you were in the incubation period). Syphilis is very deceptive and mimics other diseases. The primary stage is a dime size sore with a raised edge and clear liquid in the center. After 3 to 4 weeks the sore clears up on its own. The sores don’t hurt or itch. Just to make sure and double check, please ask your doctor to do another test again for an RPR (rapid plasma regent) which is only a screening test.
I’m thinking it could be a number of things but look at the bigger picture of what is the worse case scenario. Syphilis is a bacterial infection and can be treated with Bicillin and is ok during pregnancy. Good Luck
