How long can herpes stay hidden before you have your first outbreak?
I am 24 years old and have been with my boyfriend now for 1 1/2 years.
This past weekend I did something i never thought i would do. I cheated on my current boyfriend with an old boyfriend who was in town for christmas. I told my boyfriend and suprisingly enough he forgave me and we began to work things out. Within a day and a half i broke out in my vaginal area. I have been fighting a yeast infection on and off for over a month now.
A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with the type of HPV that causes cervical cancer. 2 1/2 years ago my husband passed away. During the last year of our marriage i found out later that he had been unfaithful. Also the boyfriend i had all through highschool cheated on me with at least10 different people. I have only had 2 sexual partners between my husband and my current boyfriend until this past weekend. I went to the doctor today and she was unsure if the sores were infact herpes. I had all of the tests and blood work sent off. She was also concerned that i have something wrong with my ovaries. She seemed to think this was due to either the hpv or the possibilites of herpes. My boyfriend has been faithful to me but has lived a very highrisk lifestyle in the past. He has had mulitple blood tests for herpes done and have all come back negative. The last one being 7 months ago. My doctor told me today that it is possible to have a blood test come back negative if you have not had an outbreak. Is it possible that I have had herpes all this time and just havent known it?
She also diagnosed me with a very severe yeast infection and doesnt think the HPV has gotten any better. Right now my method of birth control is an IUD that i had placed during my marriage. I just found out that they make you more likely to contract an std.
For the past 4 months i have not only had 3 kidney infections but i have had pain during and after intercourse along with a brownish colored spotting! I am feaking out right now because everything i am experincing are symptoms of so many different things!
How long can herpes stay dormiant and how soon after exposer can you have an outbreak?
My doctor also stated that she didnt think that my outbreak looked like an initial outbreak if it was infact herpes. Is it possible that i have had one before and havent noticed?
She explained to me that severe stress can cause outbreaks in herpes that is otherwise untraceable. I have also recently been diagnosed with ptsd. is there anyway that this could be anything but herpes?

I would find another doctor.
A blood test for herpes tests for antibodies to the virus in your blood. If you’ve had herpes for more than a couple of months, you WILL test positive for herpes in a blood test - whether or not you’ve ever had symptoms. This is a really basic fact about herpes, and its kind of scary that your doctor doesn’t understand how viral antibodies work.
With that said, most people with genital herpes never have any symptoms at all. Its definitely possible to have herpes for years and years and never have an outbreak - or get your first outbreak years after exposure.
Also, know that visual diagnoses of herpes are often wrong. (Especially from doctors who don’t know much about herpes.)
I think that its quite possible that what you have is the result of a bad yeast infection. Or a bad reaction to something else. Or some other thing. Or herpes. At this point, we really don’t know.
But if you got a negative blood test back - then you either don’t have herpes, or you’ve caught it in the last few months.
You can go your whole life without a single out break. Stress plays a huge factor in how often/frequently it occurs. The better physical health you are in and the healthier you eat also weighs in. Good luck and don’t stress!
Your doctor is stupid. Whether or not your have an outbreak the herpes virus still shows up in your blood work. Yup you could of have an outbreak & you didn’t notice it!

It’s your immune system. Stress will weaken your immune system thus making the virus stronger and thus triggering an outbreak. Chill, take vitamins, exercise. A stronger body = less outbreaks.
