Questions about genital herpes
So I had an outbreak yesterday. My first one I guess because I felt like I had the flu and like every other sympton possibly listed. Weird thing is that when I first got one bump I felt like I had a bump like that before. Then it started getting worse and I knew it wasn’t just a clogged pore or something. My husband and I have been monogamous for the past two years and neither one of us has had any symptoms (other than what I thought was a clogged pore a couple times). And no he hasn’t cheated on me, so I really don’t need any suggestions in that area. My doctor sent off blood tests to see if it’s HSV-1 or 2. So I guess what I am wondering is: Could those few almost painless single bumps I have had in the past have been herpes? Is it even possible to have a "primary" outbreak like that after having subtle symptoms before? I know it can lie dormant for as long as it wants, but just want to know if it can present mildly then change to dramatically. Also was wondering what may have caused it. I know it is stress in some people, but I am always stressed to the max, so that’s not it. I had a CAT scan the other day for unrelated issues and the nurse couldn’t get my IV in and she blew through 4 of my veins before getting the 5th one in. Could that have unleashed the virus into my body? Or maybe just the physical stress it caused my body? I don’t know, just wondering. I’m friggin freaking out right now!
Thanks for the help so far, but I just want to clear up a few things. I didn’t ask if I GOT herpes from an IV or from stress, I asked if those things could trigger and outbreak. I am not an idiot. And to "mom", I really don’t have a stigma attached to Herpes, but I’m sure if you had a case crop up suddenly, and maybe you have, you would probably be a bit freaked out. I’m pretty sure that is fairly normal.

Well, until the culture comes back you won’t know for sure it’s herpes. The doctors usually guess right, but not always. The other bumps were just bumps-maybe a small ingrown hair or zit. Herpes doesn’t just make a bump, it makes a sore that flat hurts. You can be infected for a lifetime and never have an outbreak- and there are those few that are just unlucky and have them regularly. Ordinarily your body keeps it supressed, but when conditions are right it will wake up and do what it does. All the herpes family live in a nerve cell somewhere in the body, and each has it’s favorite area. The herpes zoster that causes shingles seems to prefer the trunk, around the waist. Herpes Simplex, most often causes cold sores at the corner of the mouth or around the lips. And of course, the infamous Genital variety likes the groin. Stess can certainly trigger an outbreak. Whatever necessitated the need for the CAT scan would have been enough, and certainly the stess of the IV wouldn’t have helped either. It didn’t unleash the virus, as it was already there waiting for the opportunity. The opportunity came up and it took advantage. Keep in mind a virus has only one set of directions, which is to make copies of itself whenever possible. To spread itself, it has to create an open spot on the skin. If your immune system is in good shape, it just doesn’t get the chance to do that very often. It’s possible and probable that both of you may have it, and have had it for some time. It’s just not possible to know, ever, really. There is no need to freak out or get really excited. It’s a disease, and you didn’t exactly advertise for it. There are antivirals out there that can help get it supressed again, and you may never have another outbreak again. It may even be years before the next one happens. Set aside the stigma, please. It’s not like you will have a big red "H" show up on your forehead. It’s a painful, but not lifethreatening breakout. It will go away and heal. And you will be just fine. If it’s herpes type 2, fine. No point stressing over what you can’t control, and that won’t help matters anyway. Nothing major has to change between you and the hubbie either, and nothing really should. So just chill and move on with the rest of life. You will be okay, honest.
It is possible those before were outbreaks.
As for getting it, no it wasn’t the nurse. You cannot get herpes from an IV. The virus had to contact you down there to infect you. And stress does not cause the virus, it opnly causes outbreaks after you have already been infected. If you guys were both monogomous, it is possible one of you got infected before you met eachother and just never had an outbreak. You may have had it all along or he may have had it, never had an outbreak, and gave it to you. It can take years to have your first outbreak. Or another explanation, one of you could have had a cold sore on your mouth and transmitted the virus down there.
of course they could have been popping up one at a time without hurting you anything is possible since you were under more stress that is probably the reason for the severe flare up take care of yourself and you will be fine good luck
well i am monogomous with my boy friend and have been with him for almost 3 years now and living with him for the past 2 years. i know for a fact that he does not cheat on me and i don’t cheat on him. 1.5 years ago i had an out break of painful blisters with terrible itching, tingleling and burning sensations, i felt like i was getting the flu on top of that. i didn’t know what it could be and had moved to a new area so i didn’t know who was a good doctor to go to. i let it heal up on its own. the second bad out break there were relativly the same symtpoms but there were little cut like things down there. i got them tested and the result was posative for hepes.
it is possible to have mild out breaks even for the first one. some people do and they are called carriers. they show little to no symptoms of herpes and have mild out breaks.
stres is usually the main trigger of out breaks. if u have been worrying obsessivly or have been depressed or had some illness then that could trigger an out break as well.
if the nurse had any signs of cold sores (oral herpes) then i suppose its possible, but herpes is usually trasmitted through skin to skin contact. like kissing the face or mouth, or oral sex. even sharing things like ciggarettes, chapstick, drinks, lipgloss, utensils with some one that has cold sores when that item goes imediatly from their mouth to yours.
