When we met about a year and a half ago he was separated and had already filed for divorce because his wife was unfaithful. Initially his family supported his actions. I never felt as though they had ever really given me a chance. After a few months of our dating it became clear that his family had forgiven his ex and maintained close relations with her. My boyfriend said it was because of his children, and although he wasn’t comfortable with it felt there was nothing he could do. In addition, there were issues getting his wife to sign the divorce papers, she kept "losing them" every time they were sent to her. He failed to recognize it was because she wanted him back.
These factors lead to some serious strain on our relationship and we took some time apart a few months ago. He wanted to come back days after he left, but his family manipulated him and it took nearly 2 months for us to work things out. His family felt that because his wife’s relationship with the individual she cheated on him with was ending that he should get back together with her & she even threatened to keep his kids from him if we got back together. Finally he decided to follow his heart and stood up to his family. Now he feels like his family hates him and I know they hate me. How do we deal with all of this?
