How do you help a spouse who therapists suspect was sexually abused as a child?
She is 30, and was diagnosed with BPD after I caught her cheating. The cheating had been going on a long time. She says there is a darkness inside of her. Therapists suspect abuse in her childhood. She is currently on Seroquel, Lamictil and Zoloft, and seems to have little interest in anything. I want to help her, our marriage and our family, but I feel so helpless!

I didn’t think people with BPD were very interested in cheating. They’re supposed to be unnaturally attached to the one they love and WON’T cheat for fear of losing that relationship. How about trying another therapist. That’s a whooole lot of medication to be on for BPD. She won’t have a memory to remember anything if she’s kept on that stuff. Without a memory of what happened, she can’t work through anything. Find someone who isn’t so prescription happy and see if they can’t work through the problems and make a better diagnosis.
